Menswear Says Relax
From soft suits to slip-on shackets, workwear has loosened up for the new era. Here’s how to dress accordingly.
Double Down
If you’re buying a suit jacket this season, make it double-breasted. Double-button detailing is a nod to classic vintage tailoring that can just as easily be worn to a work meeting, wedding or weekend brunch. Inject a SS22 update by opting for a checked print, or team it with a vibrant shirt in cobalt blue or purple.
Lighten Up
There’s no denying our work/life balance has changed (hopefully for good) and this spring sees the traditional two-piece suit evolve from formal to playful. Think fresh shades of baby blue, pale pink or stone, rather than sombre greys and blacks. To elevate a light suit, team it with a crew neck tee in lilac, this season’s standout shade, for a pop of subtle colour.
Statement Shackets
Last year’s shackets had a utilitarian vibe, but for Spring/Summer 22, the look is distinctly more opulent – think elegant suedes, sumptuous silks, assertive prints and bold checks. Team a standout shacket with pared-down trousers in classic khaki or navy blue, a short-sleeve shirt and a pair of suede boots for a sharp, considered look with maximum versatility.
Supersize Me
Breathe easy as the mercury rises – the suit has gone supersized this summer. Ample blazers and wide-leg trousers in relaxed fabrics replace traditional boardroom tailoring. For dressed-down days, throw oversized jackets over this summer’s must-have sleeveless top. Slouchy slacks worn with a slick pair of pool slides are the ultimate in luxe-meets-louche detailing.
